Addie and Valerie became instant best friends when Valerie moved in across the street after her parents divorced. But as childhood friends so often do, they drifted apart in high school when Valerie became a cheerleader and started hanging out with the popular kids while Addie continued to struggle with shyness and weight gain. During senior year something happened that caused their friendship to be forever severed or so Addie thought until Valerie showed up at Addie’s door begging for help on the night of their high school reunion (which Addie hadn’t attended, of course). Soon the pair are fleeing from the police chief (an attractive man you just know is going to become forever single Addie’s love interest) and remembering their childhood adventures.
At times Best Friends Forever is far-fetched (see the bank robbery scene), but it’s incredibly touching. When one strips away some of the silly plot points, at the heart is the relationship between Addie and Valerie which is very realistic.
